Produced by Sol Lesser and filmed in 1923. It was not released until two years later (to probably cash in on Harry's rising popularity). The film currently exists only in snippets. Fortunately two of those snippets include June, one scene on horseback and the other at the film's conclusion.Originally titled "A Tough Tenderfoot" it is the story of a fellow who decides to "Go west young man," eventually battling a gang of thugs. He's able to corral them by films end, thereby winning the hand of the prettiest girl in town (or anywhere else for that matter!).
To date the only written confirmation of June's appearance in this film is from a pre-release notice in the New York Times (Oct. 1923): "Harry Langdon, known in vaudeville, is now making two-reel comedies, and has completed a picture called 'A Tough Tenderfoot.' June Marlowe plays opposite him." Upon viewing the snips featuring the film's heroine, one must conclude that "a picture is truly worth a thousand words" especially when it comes to the identity of the heroine, and those thousand words all point to June.
The June 1925 issue of Moving Picture World called the film "...a goulash of things that make many people laugh."
Indications are a second Harry Langdon short featuring June was made around the same time as this film. Stay tuned.
