Our Gang
with
June Marlowe (as Miss Crabtree)
and
Billy Gilbert

Miss Crabtree admonishes the gang for playing hooky.
Pete The Pup, since he doesn't have to attend school, replies.
June continues her role as the popular "Miss Crabtree," wherein she, along with the help of a blow hard sea captain, gives the kids an object lesson in responsibility.

The story has the kids skipping school to listen to the overblown exploits of an old salt.  Miss Crabtree discovers the reason for their truancy and confronts the captain.  He is tender of heart and meant no harm so between the two of them they hatch a plot to convince the children never to play hooky again.  The plan calls for Miss Crabtree to be "shanghaied" by the captain and it all plays out in a knockabout ending wherein the gang learns their lesson.

June was fine throughout.  As part of the "plan" she went through some faux emotions for the benefit of the kids to help convince them their beloved teacher actually was in peril.  When things begin to go awry she even gets the Hal Roach water treatment (though not as wet as in the ending of Fast Work).

Adding the blustery Billy Gilbert to the mix makes the film a treat to watch.  In the Could-a Would-a Should-a category, I for one would have loved to see a Roach two-reeler featuring Billy and June (other than this one of course!).

Dripping wet or dripping dry, she's still a pip.
June would complete her "Miss Crabtree" work with her next film.  Although it was not the last movie she made, the fact that her last is lost, her next makes for a very nice finale indeed.
